You may have noticed that this year we’re celebrating 30 years of Ecotricity. We’ve certainly achieved a lot in this time, and we couldn’t have done it without our fantastic customers - but also our loyal staff too.
We thought it would be fun to ask some questions to some of our longest staff members and also those who have just joined us too.
We’re thrilled to introduce you to Lucy, our Principal Sites Manager, who has worked at Ecotricity for 21 years.
Name: Lucy Hoyle
Job: Principal Sites Manager
Can you tell us a little more about your role?
My role has evolved quite a bit during my time at Ecotricity. I began as a Planning Assistant while completing my PhD, then progressed to Head of Development before taking a short break to have children. Now, as Principal Sites Manager, I support and guide projects throughout the entire development process—from initial concept through to completion. It’s a varied role that keeps me on my toes and allows me to collaborate across teams.
How long have you worked at Ecotricity?
21 years
Why did you apply for your role?
Initially, I was drawn to the company’s mission and the opportunity to be part of something innovative and meaningful. Over the years, it’s been the sense of purpose and the constant evolution of the company that’s kept me engaged and passionate about the work we do.
What’s your favourite thing about working for Eco?
The dynamic and ever-evolving nature of the company makes each day interesting and challenging. I also feel incredibly lucky to work within such a close-knit team. Many of us have been here for over a decade, and we’ve built a strong sense of trust and support. It genuinely feels like we’re all in it together.
Why should people switch to green energy?
Switching to green energy is one of the simplest and most impactful ways individuals can contribute to fighting the climate crisis. It’s a powerful statement about the kind of future we want—and need—to build.
Why do you think Ecotricity is different from other energy companies and has lasted 30 years?
Ecotricity stands out because it’s always been about more than just supplying energy—it’s about transforming the whole industry. The company has consistently stayed ahead of the curve, driven by strong values and a mission to create real change. That’s what makes it resilient, relevant, and still going strong after 30 years.
Best Eco memory?
There have been so many over the years, but one that really stands out is climbing the turbine at Green Park, Reading — a project I helped get permission for. Reaching the top and popping my head out into the open air felt like being on top of the world, but also a little bit terrifying! It was one of those moments that really summed up what it means to be part of this team — working hard together toward something that matters.
Ready to start turning your bills into mills?
Switch to Ecotricity and we’ll use your bill money to build new sources of renewable energy and build a greener Britain.
