At Ecotricity we’re really lucky to have people who are passionate about our mission to make Britain greener. They really help us to do more when it comes to spreading the green message, and we love to support them whenever possible as they pursue their own goals. We caught up with Olga who recently became a supervisor in our Settlement and Data team. She told us about her yoga practice and how Ecotricity has helped her to develop.

I’ve been working at Ecotricity for two and a half years and I work with the most amazing people. I’m very proud to be able to work for a company which is not just utility provider, but also changes the way people think about energy, transport and food. Green living is very important to me and I try to keep an eye on the carbon footprint of our household. I also make sure products we use at home are ethically sourced. I think our biggest environmental focus this year is to reduce the amount of plastic we use in our household.

I’m not a big fan of spending time in the kitchen but my boyfriend, (who also is a yoga teacher) cooks delicious, healthy and inventive vegetarian/vegan meals.

I started doing yoga about 15 years ago through my fascination with Indian culture. In Poland yoga wasn’t popular at all, there were no classes I could go to in my home town but I managed to get hold of a book to use for my practice. If someone told me then that I’d be a yoga teacher one day, I would’ve just laughed.

I run weekly vinyasa classes for staff on Thursday after work. I usually have a monthly focus, but weekly themes for my classes. I also try to stay in tune with the seasons. Everyone is welcome from beginners to advanced yogis. My aim is to create a space where people feel safe, encouraged and comfortable, and a time when body, mind and breath are all in tune. It's been a year since we started and we celebrated with vegan brownies.

I think mindfulness and relaxation is the most essential component of a happy and healthy lifestyle. I did my Registered Yoga Teacher Training over a period of 9 months and I often discussed experiences I had, workshops I went to and books I’d read, with colleagues from work. Towards the end of the training a few people asked if I was planning to bring yoga to Ecotricity, so I thought I’d give it a go. Classes at Ecotricity were my first attempts as a yoga teacher and I’m very grateful that I was able to build my experience and confidence as a yoga teacher here.

We’re really proud to be a part of Olga’s ongoing success, and many of our people benefit greatly from her wonderful classes. She provides some welcome relaxation to what can sometimes be a hectic day in the office. Yoga’s a great way to slow down and really get in touch with yourself, why not give it a go. And to make a difference to the world around you, choose green energy and switch to Ecotricity.

    Ecotricity Explains: Standing Charge

There are two main components to an energy bill – your unit price and standing charge. The first is pretty self-explanatory, but the latter is a bit more complex, so we get a lot of questions which we wanted to answer all in one place.
