EcoFlex: How much of my battery’s energy can EcoFlex access?
EcoFlex is designed to manage your battery with care for exceptional longevity and health.
Discharging at high power when your battery’s charge is low can have a negative impact on its health. For this reason, our SmartShift automation will never tell your battery to discharge to the grid if the charge is below 25%.
In addition, the Minimum Reserve Level (or back-up reserve level) set directly in your battery manufacturer’s app always takes priority. If this is set to greater than 25%, SmartShift will use this figure as the discharge limit.
Recommended settings
We recommend setting the minimum reserve level in the EcoFlex app to match the minimum reserve level (or back-up reserve level) in your battery manufacturer’s app.
This ensures that our SmartShift automation understands how the battery’s hardware will handle the minimum reserve level, which will lead to better battery decisions.
If there’s a large difference between the settings in the EcoFlex app and the battery manufacturer’s app, it may cause unintended consequences such as sporadic charging from the grid.
To set the minimum reserve level in your EcoFlex app:
Select the Devices tab
Go to SmartShift settings
Scroll down to Enter Minimum Reserve Level
Enter the same figure that you can see in your battery manufacturer’s app.
Note: Using this feature does not change how much of your battery can be used by EcoFlex, which will always attempt to use 75% of your total battery capacity.
Manually exporting energy below the minimum reserve level
You can manually discharge your battery below SmartShift's 25% limit if your battery’s minimum reserve level is below 25%.
For example, if your battery’s minimum reserve level is 20%, you can export the remaining 5% down to 20% using the manual controls in the EcoFlex app.
Battery functionality
Generally, your battery manufacturer treats your minimum reserve level as the amount required for outages. Once your battery reaches this energy level, it will import energy from the grid to meet household needs unless your home generation system covers your usage.
Note that SmartShift’s 25% limit does not affect your battery’s settings. If your battery’s minimum reserve level is below 25%, you’ll still be able to self-consume battery energy down to that level. For example, if your minimum reserve level is 5%, any energy from 25% down to 5% can be used to cover your household usage.
