Corporate social responsibility and Ecotricity
Our vision is for a green Britain – a place in which we all live more sustainable lives and where ethical business is the norm, with all of us pursuing green outcomes.
None of this would be possible in the UK without Corporate Social Responsibility.
What is Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)?
The definition of CSR is looking at a company’s impact on the world and coming up with a plan to ensure that they’re as environmentally and socially responsible as possible.
For us, it’s just common sense – it’s in our DNA.
However, more and more businesses are looking to be as responsible as possible because it makes good business sense. There are countless benefits of corporate social responsibility:
- It’s good for your public perception and reputation - businesses who are seen to care about the environment and community are more appealing to their customers
- It encourages media coverage - doing good in your community and working to be sustainable puts your business in a positive light
- It’s good for your employees - not only for boosting staff engagement, but also attracting new ones. Everyone feels better working for an ethical and sustainable company
- It attracts investors - who will often be keener to back organisations who pride themselves on their ethics
- It can save you money - if you reduce waste and cut your carbon emissions, you’ll also cut your costs
- It’s the right thing to do – and we can all work towards a cleaner, better, fairer future.
Your Business and CSR
One of the most effective ways you can contribute towards social responsibility in your business is looking at sustainability.
Adjusting your supply chain will kick-start your CSR policy. You can make a social, ethical or environmental change by buying and investing in Fairtrade, organic, green or sustainably-sourced products and services.
When we spend our money we have a chance to make a difference. Money makes the world go round and it’s our choice which way round it goes. The things we buy, right down to our energy supply, can reinforce the status quo, or support a better way of doing things.
The business electricity Ecotricity provides is already 100% green, and our gas supply is getting greener all the time. As a not-for-dividend company with no shareholders to please, we’re free to harness the money from our customers’ energy bills to build new sources of green energy. In fact, on average we spend more per customer each year on new sources of renewable energy than any other energy company in Britain - bar none.
By switching to Ecotricity, you’ll be part of a sustainable future. This very simple action makes a big difference - the biggest difference your business can make to fight climate change, cut your carbon footprint and boycott fossil fuels. We are always keen to work with likeminded organisations, supporting your drive to be sustainable. And it’ll really help your aim to be socially and environmentally responsible.
What we do – examples of Corporate Social Responsibility
We believe a sustainable future is possible. We fight for this future because it is the right thing to do and our supply chain is as ethical, sustainable and green as can be.
What we do matters and it affects our customers, our suppliers, the environment, communities and our employees.
We are accredited across our whole business by the European Eco-management & Audit Scheme (EMAS) – the gold standard of environmental management. We’re the only energy supplier to achieve this accreditation.
We will not work with any organisations directly involved in factory farming, animal slaughter, animal testing, arms, tobacco, nuclear power, shale gas fracking, GMO’s – or anything else we consider to be unethical, immoral or just plain wrong.
We donate funds to support projects that will help bring about a greener Britain through our charitable arm – The Green Britain Foundation.
The Green Britain Centre is a place where the latest technology and thinking is woven into a vision of a more sustainable way to live, a life in the near future. Its mission is to inform, educate and empower people – to take steps towards living in Green Britain. Our Green Britain Education Programme, delivered at the Centre and at Forest Green Rovers Football Club, also supports this mission.
We also encourage volunteer work in our employees in and around our base in Stroud, Gloucestershire. Every member of staff is entitled to one day of paid leave each year to go out into the community and help out a local charity focused on food, biodiversity, energy, transport or wellbeing.
