Gower Electric co
In 2020, Ecotricity joined forces with Gower Electric co to bring affordable, locally generated green energy to households across Swansea.
Together, we’re proving what’s possible when community ambition meets green energy innovation.
Our partnership
Residents living within the Swansea postcode area can sign up to receive green energy through Gower Electric co, in partnership with Ecotricity. By switching, you’ll become a customer of both organisations:
Local green energy flows from Wales’ first community-owned sun park at Dunvant, managed by Gower Electric co
Billing and account support are handled by Ecotricity, ensuring seamless service backed by our commitment to building new sources of green energy across Britain.
What makes this partnership unique is the way surplus profits are shared. Every August, Gower Electric co customers can choose to:
Take their share as credit on their energy bill
Donate some or all of it to local charities.
Dunvant sun park: Powering Swansea’s future
The Dunvant sun park includes 3,568 solar panels across a four-acre site, generating 1 MW of clean energy. Since March 2017, the site has been producing green power for the community, supported by on-site battery storage with a capacity of up to 250,000 kWh.
Gower Electric co's work at Dunvant shows how community-led renewable projects can deliver real impact. As Roy Church, Director of the Gower Heritage Centre and Gower Electric co, explains:
“Working with Ecotricity has created a unique way of getting locally made electricity to local customers. By showing that a local scheme can work, we believe more consumers will be encouraged to join the drive for a fully renewable future.”
Benefits for local residents
Making the switch means you can:
Support a community-owned renewable project
Receive a credit on your energy bill through shared profits
Help fund local groups and charities
Be part of a partnership that champions education, sustainability, and zero-carbon living
“Being part of a partnership that is educating and informing the public about the need for sustainable energy is an important part of becoming a customer.”
– Roy Church
