It’s here - the Great Big Green Week is running from 6 - 14 June 2026, and it’s no exaggeration to say that it’s Britain’s largest celebration of community-led climate and green action, featuring events on green energy, travel, food and much more.

In fact, the Great Big Green Week (GBGW) has so many events up and down the country that the organisers, The Climate Coalition, have had to stretch the ‘week’ to nine days just to fit them all in!

The first GBGW took place in 2021 with over 5,000 events. Since then, it’s gone from strength to strength, with 1.2 million people taking part last year.

This year’s theme is simple but powerful: Together for Good. It’s easy to believe that the actions we take locally don’t affect the bigger picture, particularly on climate change. But GBGW proves that when people come together with small, everyday actions, they can create a groundswell of change that makes their collective action visible on the national stage, influencing politicians to make even bigger changes with the confidence of a popular mandate.

There are thousands of events to choose from this year all over the country and there’s a handy map where you can see everything that’s local to you, from film screenings and repair cafes, to sustainable fashion shows and even tips from medieval monks on green living!

Transforming energy in Britain

Energy is at the heart of the climate crisis and we’re doing everything in our power to transform Britain’s broken energy system, by building new sources of green energy with our customers’ bills. We call it Bills into Mills.

During GBGW, we want to turn the spotlight onto community energy projects. Across the UK, people are hosting tours of community solar parks, sharing tips on how to cut energy bills and build sustainable homes, and giving talks on how green energy can help community security and resilience.

Making transport greener

Transport remains one of the largest contributors to the UK’s carbon footprint, which is why it’s part of our wider vision for a zero carbon Britain. We built The Electric Highway, a charging network for electric vehicles across Britain, which we sold to Gridserve in 2021. We're also offering our EV Tariff, so customers can charge their EVs at night for less.

If you only need to travel within your local community, cycling and walking are the best options for the planet and your health. GBGW has a huge number of events to help you get outside and enjoy some fresh air.

If you’ve got a bike, you can join a bike bus, meander along the River Mersey or take part in a ride to the light pyramid in Milton Keynes. There are also bike repair workshops and if that all sounds a bit too much like hard work, why not try an e-bike for a day!

There are also lots of walking events, including guided tree walks in Holborn, Derby and Bristol.

Putting more plants on our plates

The final key area in creating a greener Britain is food. Factory farming of animals is a huge contributor to global carbon emissions and deforestation – and some energy companies even use animal by-products to generate electricity.

We don’t think that’s right, which is why we’re the only energy company in the world certified as vegan by both The Vegan Society and Viva!, the vegan charity.

Choosing local, seasonal, plant-based food protects our soil, rivers and wildlife. It’s all about shifting our food culture toward being more sustainable.

This year’s GBGW has an amazing selection of food-related events. You can learn about transforming the food system and why we need to save endangered pollinators. There are even cooking classes and guides to home composting, urban fungi and windowsill microgreens.

How you can make a difference

Up to two million people will be taking part in Great Big Green Week 2026. With so many different events taking place up and down the country, you’re sure to find lots of events to enjoy.

Better yet, if you’ve got something to share, you can put on your own event and list it on the GBGW website – it’s really easy to do. Whether you’re an individual, a school, a sport club, a business or a community group, get stuck into GBGW this June!
