Our work with Future Yard CIC to green up grassroots music and live music will continue by renewing our partnership with the Merseyside music venue. The partnership entering its third year will see us continue to share knowhow and data and explore a carbon-free future for live events.
Powering a low carbon live events movement
At the core of the renewed partnership is a shared ambition to help the live events industry break its reliance on fossil fuels and transition toward cleaner, smarter energy systems.
Future Yard has already set out a bold roadmap to reach operational net zero by 2030, underpinned by renewable energy, sustainable programming, and a focus on reducing its biggest emissions source: audience travel.
We will continue to provide not just 100% green electricity and carbon neutralised gas for Future Yard, but work with them to spotlight how live events can be produced sustainably, tackling everything from clean power on site to tackling Scope 3 emissions beyond the venue walls.
A new era for Future Yard
Based in Birkenhead, Future Yard has become a national blueprint for sustainable live music. The venue continues to demonstrate how the industry can cut carbon without cutting culture.
Through year three of the partnership, Future Yard’s programme of activity will include its flagship POP climate conference and green travel initiatives, demonstrating how venues can engage audiences, artists, and communities in climate action, turning events into platforms for change.
As Future Yard enters an exciting phase of growth, the partnership will play a crucial role in supporting its expanding footprint. The venue recently unveiled ambitious investment plans, including a new 600-capacity indoor venue and studio complex, alongside wider development proposals to significantly increase audience capacity, year-round programming and its support for the Merseyside’s vibrant arts community.
"Real social impact"
Meanwhile, we will continue to provide sector leadership by working alongside venues, promoters, and industry bodies in the live events sector to create practical, scalable solutions.
This collaborative approach was recognised at this year's Energy Awards, with Ecotricity Business winning Collaboration for the Year for our work decarbonising the live events sector. This award-winning approach will be a central part of year three of our partnership with Future Yard.
Our Founder, Dale Vince OBE, said: "Future Yard is proving that live music doesn't have to run on fossil fuels. It's a lovely venue putting on great events, cutting carbon and having a real social impact. We’re happy to be teaming up for a third year, together showing that cleaner, greener live music isn't an aspiration – it's a happening now thing."
Future Yard's Chief Executive, Craig Pennington, added: “Our partnership with Ecotricity Business has been instrumental in shaping our sustainability journey. As we grow, it’s vital that we scale our impact in the right way - showing that grassroots venues can lead on climate action. This collaboration allows us to put our values into practice and share what we’re learning with the wider sector.”
