Design Technician
Brief overview of position
The Development Team is responsible for securing land and the necessary permissions to enable the construction of wind turbines. This involves four main stages:
- The identification of developable sites for wind energy and securing their availability with an Option & Lease Agreement
- Preparing EIA statements and planning applications for wind energy developments, including pre-application consultation and negotiations.
- Managing submitted planning applications including appeals.
- Discharging and compliance with planning conditions.
The Role Requires the following skills and knowledge:
- Conversant in at least one of the following packages: AutoCAD/Windfarm/MapInfo/ArcGIS/Photoshop/Illustrator
- Keen interest and commitment to Renewable Energy.
- Excellent IT skills with a proven aptitude and willingness to learn new software packages.
- Good communication skills and ability to present complex information in a clear and logical format.
- Flexibility and willingness to travel to sites around the UK
- An interest in photography desirable but not essential
- Full driving licence
Core Responsibilities
- Perform desk-top feasibility studies using GIS software, on potential wind farm locations. Assess the development area and its suitability for wind farm location.
- Provide feedback to landowners on the suitability of their land holdings.
- Identify, understand, and interpret the site constraints and requirements in order to produce the optimum site design.
- Undertake technical assessments including noise, access, line of sight and shadow flicker to inform the design process.
- Undertake photography and fieldwork to produce photomontages.
- Manage the site design process for the life of assigned projects.
- Create wind farm layouts using GIS and AutoCAD
- Create and prepare all figures for inclusion within the Environmental Statement/Planning Application

Assistant Ecologist
An opportunity has arisen within the company for an Assistant Ecologist within the development team. This team is responsible for securing land and the necessary permissions to enable the construction of wind turbines.
The Role requires the following skills:
- Good ecological field work/naturalist skills
- Experience in undertaking an extended phase 1 habitat survey.
- Experience of conducting protected species surveys, particularly bat surveys.
- Excellent report writing and research skills.
- Full Driving License.
- Flexibility, initiative and ability to work without supervision and prioritise.
- Tact and diplomacy.
- Excellent IT skills. GIS, Excel.
Specific Knowledge Required
- An understanding of farming and countryside management in UK.
- Understanding of UK and European Wildlife Legislation.
Educational Requirements
- Education to degree level or equivalent in appropriate subject.
Core Responsibilities
- To provide assistance to the Ecologist in delivering objectives.
- The identification of developable sites for wind energy and securing their availability with a land lease.
- Preparing EIA statements and planning applications for wind energy developments, including pre-application consultation and negotiations.
- Managing submitted planning applications including appeals.
- Discharging and compliance with planning conditions.
- Undertake Phase 1 habitat surveys and phase 2 survey where appropriate.
- Liaise with external ecological consultants.
- Undertake baseline studies of bats with the Ecologist or external consultants.
- Deployment and analysis of remote bat detectors (eg Anabats or equivalent).
- Assist in preparation and checking the ecology chapter for individual Environmental Statements/Planning Statements and non-technical summaries.
