Dalby, Leicestershire

More wind energy for lovely Leicestershire!

We’re looking at the potential for up to 9 wind turbines beside the A46 to provide local green electricity to the people of Leicestershire.

At the moment we are carrying out a number of assessments on the site and we're in the process of putting together a planning application which we hope to submit in late Spring/early Summer. We’ve already held a resident drop-in session at Old Dalby village where we had over 100 people come and talk to us. A further consultation exercise will be held prior to any application going to Melton District Council and this will be advertised locally.

A wind park of 9 turbines – up to 80 metres to tip - would make enough electricity to power the equivalent of over 5,000 local homes each year – that’s a quarter of households within Melton District.

This project could be a big step for the people of Melton and Leicestershire towards a future powered by a local energy source - that will never run out.

02 March 2010

Today we’ve just put up the 50m wind mast up on the site. This mast will be used to gather information about wind speeds and direction, and is likely to remain on site for up to 18 months.

The mast will also be used to help us with our noise assessment which is due to start at the end of this week.

11 February 2010

Melton District Council have now granted us planning permission for our temporary 50m wind mast at Dalby. The decision, which was made through delegated powers, came through at the end of January. We will now be looking to erect the mast on the site in the next couple of weeks.

The wind mast will be on site for approximately 18 months, providing more a much more accurate picture of the actual conditions at the location. All useful information as we move forward with our proposal to build our first wind farm in Leicestershire.

03 December 2009

We have submitted an application for a 50m anemometry mast as well as a request for a scoping opinion to Melton Borough Council.

The purpose of the mast is to get a more detailed picture of wind speeds and conditions at the site. The mast is a temporary part of the application and will only be on-site for two years.

The entire mast can be erected and removed with no changes to the site or impact on the site surroundings.

The scoping request is to outline our intentions for the project so that the council and other statutory consultees, such as Natural England and RSPB, can comment on the proposals.

If you have any questions about the temporary mast or the scoping request, please let us know:

26 November 2009

We will soon be submitting a Scoping Report and a planning application for a 50m monitoring mast to Melton Council. The Scoping Report sets out how we’ll gather the technical data needed, and asks the Council to consult statutory consultees for the project. These will include bodies with an authoritative knowledge on a specific aspect of the project, such as Natural England, RSPB and the Environment Agency.

Wind is free, abundant and an everlasting resource we can harness to create sustainable energy for now and the future. To show your support for this project you can write to Melton Council at this address:
