Avonmouth Docks Wind Park officially opened

04 October 2007

Jim Fitzpatrick at Avonmouth Docks Wind Farm

The great and the good of the South West descended on Avonmouth Docks on a glorious sunny October afternoon to see Jim Fitzpatrick MP officially 'switch on' the three magnificent E82 wind turbines that now grace the banks of the Severn Estuary.

The Minister stated "The statistics are certainly impressive - these three wind turbines alone will generate more than 15 million kilowatt hours of electricity every year for the next 30 years. That is enough to power 4,669 homes and save more than 15,408 tonnes of carbon dioxide for every year of the project."

He added "If we are to realise our energy ambitions for a more sustainable UK, projects like the one here at Avonmouth are vital. For me, this project highlights the real potential of bringing ports and renewable energy together. It represents a winning partnership."

You can find out more about the project on the project page, also be sure to check out the amazing time-lapse construction video.
