Al Gore presents Dale Vince with world's leading green energy prize

Al Gore may have breakfasted with Branson but it was Britain's celebrated renewable energy engineer, Dale Vince OBE, he handed the world's leading green energy award to at the Ashden Awards. The ceremony, hosted by Anna Ford, took place at the Royal Geographical Society in London.

Dale Vince, founder of Ecotricity and a bit of a rebel with a cause, had this to say: "Kyoto - the UN's milestone climate change conference, took place about ten years ago today. In the decade since then the biggest change any of us have seen, has taken place probably in the last 12 months. And that is that climate change has become almost universally accepted as the biggest single issue we all face. Even George Bush gets it now, or so it seems....

It's taken ten years to reach this point. The challenge of the next ten years, for all of us, is to do something about it. The Ecotricity team accepts this challenge."

Dale Vince on tackling climate change

 "Energy is the single biggest source of carbon emissions in the UK. We have to change where our electricity comes from. The answer is affordable, renewable energy. If we are to tackle climate change we need a mass movement - and wind is far and away the renewable technology with most to offer."
