If anyone needed proof of what life may be like if global warming continues the signs have been hard to miss this summer, heavy rain in June, tropical weather in August and the scary sight of British men in sandals! But for wildlife and the environment the long term consequences are likely to be even more frightening.
It is often hard for people to see what difference they can make to such large problems like climate change. But now there's a chance for individuals do to something that will turn down the heat.
Ecotricity, the UK's first green electricity supplier, has launched its 'Global Cooling' campaign. The aim is to encourage people to switch their electricity supply to one that will create new sources of renewable energy and cut carbon dioxide emissions - the major contributor to the problem of global warming.
The campaign has the support of partners such as The Body Shop, CARE International, Centre for Alternative Technology, Ellis Brigham, Environ, Fresh & Wild, The Soil Association and Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust. Postcards giving information on how to join the campaign are available at The Body Shop and Ellis Brigham stores or from other campaign partners.
Dale Vince, Managing Director of Ecotricity comments, "Switching to Ecotricity is an easy and affordable step that everyone can make to improve the environment. We match the prices of your local electricity supplier so Ecotricity shouldn't cost more than 'normal' electricity. We are dedicated to building more new clean energy sources, so every pound spent with us is an investment in re-shaping the way energy is produced now and in the future."
