Five lucky families in East Anglia are today celebrating a year's freedom from electricity bills after winning a competition organised by Ecotricity, the UK's leading green electricity supplier, and the Eastern Daily Press newspaper.
They'll also be pleased to know that their green electricity will be coming from Ecotricity's newest, and the UK's tallest, wind turbine at Swaffham in Norfolk.
Over 1,000 people entered the competition which was arranged to celebrate the completion of the new turbine and alert people to the fact that by simply changing their electricity supplier they can make a difference to climate change.
Ecotricity's Managing Director, Dale Vince says, "We were very pleased with the response to the competition and congratulate the winners. Even if you didn't win you can still help the environment by switching to Ecotricity. If we can turn global warming around everyone's a winner."
Ecotricity now has two turbines at Swaffham and has plans for others in the East Anglian region. One such project is at Shipdham where the company wants to build two turbines to supply 3,000 homes that will save the environment over 7,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions every year.
