Fen Farm is a great site for green energy. It boasts twenty windmills and 1MW of solar energy (provided by 5,000 panels), and we now have permission to add a further 5MW of solar to take total onsite capacity up to 22MW.
The extra 18,000 solar panels will be enough to power more than 1,000 homes and save another 2,000 tonnes of CO2. Not to mention increasing biodiversity by creating species-rich grassland and planting native hedgerows.
Homes Powered (equiv): Derived from the expected generation above and based on an average UK electricity consumption per household of 4,128 kWh per annum (DECC, 2015)
CO2 Savings (Tonnes/Year): Assumed CO2 equivalent figure is 394g of CO2/kWh produced at grid-mix (Dukes, 2015).
*Panel numbers to nearest 1,000
Eco Measures: This site will be will be managed to develop species-rich meadow grassland to benefit bees and farmland birds. Additional eco measures will include bird boxes.
