Britain’s greenest energy company, Ecotricity, will talk about renewables, bees and saving the planet at the Festival of Nature in Bristol this summer.

Ecotricity is one of the headline sponsors of the festival and will be involved throughout the summer, culminating in a talk from principal ecologist Simon Pickering at the Bristol Festival of Nature, which runs from 8-10 June.

The talk, entitled ‘The lazy gardener and the friendly bee’, will look at the importance of pollinators in our eco system and how rewilding your garden could save the planet.

Ecotricity will host an interactive stand at the event and is also looking into the possibility of powering some of the stages with renewable energy – to make this year’s festival the greenest yet.

Savita Custead, chief executive of the Bristol Natural History Consortium, which runs the festival, said: “We’re thrilled to be creating a new partnership with Ecotricity around Festival of Nature – we’re really looking forward to working together on festival events this June, and finding new ways to connect people and nature.”

Will Guyatt, head of communications at Ecotricity, said: “The Festival of Nature is a fantastic event that brings the natural world to life in the heart of Bristol – a wonderful city.

“We’re really looking forward to being a part of the festival this year and engaging with families and young people about how renewables can work alongside nature and help to prevent climate change.”

The festival runs throughout the summer and kicks off this weekend (27-30 April) with the City Nature Challenge – a competition to find out which city on Earth has the most wildlife and the most nature-loving citizens.

Bristol and Bath are competing with 65 cities on five continents to discover and record as much wildlife as possible over four days and show the world how amazing the region is for people and nature. The records created will count towards local, national and international efforts to learn about and protect the regions' wildlife.

The Festival of Nature week kicks off on Saturday 2 June with the Bath Festival of Nature in Green Park and continues with a week of activities building up to the Bristol Festival of Nature, which runs from 8-10 June on the Bristol Harbourside.

The Bristol Festival of Nature, the UK’s largest celebration of the natural world, celebrates its 15th birthday this year with free interactive exhibitions, music, workshops, talks and much more.
