Ecotricity has been announced as the headline sponsor of the RSPB Weekend, which will take place in Nottingham this April.

The weekend features an exciting and varied programme with a wide range of talks, workshops and activities to inspire nature enthusiasts across the country.

Ecotricity will feature as part of the programme, with principal ecologist Simon Pickering running a talk entitled ‘Saving nature through the Green Energy Revolution’.

There will be special guest speakers including award winning wildlife photographer and film maker, Doug Allan, who has worked on many incredible wildlife series including Blue Planet, Ocean Giants and Planet Earth.

At the event you’ll also be able to try your hand at something new with a wide range of hands-on workshops and activities. From wildlife sketching or photography to gardening for butterflies, there’s something for every nature enthusiast. You can even discover how to design a nature reserve using an interactive sand box.

The RSPB will be running a range of optional excursions throughout the weekend, with a whole range of exciting places to choose from including Sherwood Forest, Wollaton Hall and the RSPB Coombes Valley nature reserve.

Principal ecologist at Ecotricity, Simon Pickering, said: “We’re really excited to be part of the RSPB Weekend this year and I’m looking forward to talking about the role of renewable energy in combating climate change while making room for nature.”

Mike Clarke, chief executive of the RSPB said: “The RSPB Weekend is a fantastic event that brings together like-minded people to celebrate and share their passion for nature. Every year is an opportunity to meet new people, and for the RSPB it is where we are most inspired by our members.

“It is our best showcase for the amazing work the RSPB, our thousands of volunteers and many partners are involved in, so it is only fitting that Ecotricity joins us as a headline sponsor of the RSPB Weekend.”

The RSPB and Ecotricity have worked closely for many years, including in the building of a windmill at the RSPB headquarters in Sandy, Bedfordshire in 2016.

The 0.8MW windmill provides almost half of the total energy needs of the charity – enough to power the equivalent of around 300 average homes.

The RSPB Weekend takes place from 6-8 April 2018 at the East Midlands Conference Centre, University of Nottingham. You can find out more about the event and book your place here.
