Earth.Food.Love – A zero waste story
It’s refreshing when you discover a business that has strong environmental and ethical principles.
That’s what we found when we took a trip to Totnes in Devon recently to meet Richard, his wife Nicola and his daughter Willow, who run Earth.Food.Love – the UK’s first zero waste shop.
They’d heard about the world’s first zero waste shop in Germany and were inspired to create their own a bit closer to home. After crossing the country in a caravan in search of a suitable site, they settled on the beautiful Devon town of Totnes.
The shop they’ve created was built using upcycled materials and looks stunning. All of their produce is vegan and organic, but make sure you bring your own containers as there’s no plastic allowed.
Check out their great work in our film below.
Richard has had an interesting journey to reach this point, having been on the books at Manchester United as a youngster and then forging a career as a professional footballer at Burnley, Toronto FC, New York Red Bulls and Oldham.
When his playing career was cut short through injury at the age of 27, instead of moving into coaching or punditry he decided to focus on making a positive difference.
Richard and his team want to make sure that every customer leaves with a smile on their face. Our cameraman Alex especially enjoyed the ‘make your own peanut butter’ machine and took a jar home – a move appreciated by his fiancé who described it as the best she’d ever had!
Earth.Food.Love has started a trend, with shops popping up in Bristol, Dorset and London in the last year. We’re proud to supply their green energy and were glad to pay them a visit and highlight the amazing work they do.
