We built two more windmills this year, this time at Mablethorpe in Lincolnshire (the first ones in the county). They began turning in July, generating electricity from the wind for over 1,000 homes – nearly half the households in nearby Mablethorpe. These were the first windmills built under the government’s new Renewables Obligation, which was introduced earlier the same year, or at least that’s what we thought. We were later ‘mugged’ by OFGEM, but that’s another story.
Our model was working well - we were busy turning our business energy customers’ bills into mills - and so, in August that year, we began work with our friends at the Body Shop to bring the Ecotricity message to the people, getting ready for our next big move...
