B&Q goes wind powered
A familiar name to many when it comes to 'mini-wind', B&Q needed something a bit bigger when it came to powering their own operations.
So we've teamed up with them in a really exciting project powering their main distribution centre with 100% with New Green Energy. One large majestic wind turbine does the job, and provides more than enough green electricity for the whole site - with some to spare for local homes.
This project sailed through the planning process with widespread community backing.
We recieved comments like "great idea" and "we need more than one". Testament to our Good Neighbour policy - and the fact that the majority of people in the UK do support wind power.

The turbine is up and standing proud. Blade lift happened early this morning. The crane will de-rig over the next two days and the Enercon crew will pack up and leave site.
Commissioning of the turbine will be after the Christmas holiday.
17 December 2008
All going well as the weather is with us. The E modules have been installed and first two tower sections are complete.
Blades due Sunday - we have a very good crew and hope to get blades lifted Monday morning!
16 December 2008
The tower section is arriving tomorrow. In the meantime we will begin to assemble the top part of the turbine (minus the blades).
13 November 2008
With the foundation completed we've been working on getting the work hole back filled and ground re-instated. The foundation had it's final sign off yesterday and we're happy with the quality of it - as usual.
Also the 11kV switch gear sub station is being installed - the cabling from the site to the switch should be made next week.
10 November 2008
The foundation is complete! Shuttering has been removed and back fill work has started.
We will now begin checking the section levels to ensure everything is okay. This will involve marking out the crane area for the next part of construction.
06 November 2008
The steel re enforcement work is complete and the first concrete pour will take place tomorrow.
31 October 2008
All going well at B&Q - few problems but all now resolved and all on track, steel fixing is under way - planning to pour concrete soon.
We have some new pictures in the gallery showing the foundation excavation, with ducts and blinding installed in preparation for the next fixing phase.
29 October 2008
The foundation hole has been excavated to the approximate depth and width ready for the next stage of construction. The soil conditions on the site are ideal so no piling will be required for the foundations.
We will begin construction next week. The first stage is to lay a layer of ducting, which the power cables will run through, underneath a thin layer of concrete – known as the blinding layer. This will form the base of the foundations. A network of steel reinforcement is then laid on top of the concrete which will hold the 'foundation can' in place. Concrete will be pumped into the foundation mass to complete the structure.
We are expecting the turbine delivery the second week of December.
