Ecology Building Society

Established in 1981, we are the youngest building society, operating throughout the UK from our base in West Yorkshire. All of our lending has some form of environmental payback and people save with us in the knowledge that they are helping to support sustainable development.

We specialise in mortgages for the renovation or conversion of derelict property, from humble terraces to listed buildings and provide finance for self-builders to construct energy and resource efficient homes. We also lend on buy-to-let properties needing renovation, to housing co-operatives, small community and environment related businesses and organic smallholdings.

Our new headquarters in Silsden, West Yorkshire, showcases our principles. Features include a sedum nature roof, rainwater harvesting, high levels of natural insulation, a condensing boiler and the use of sun-pipes. Photovoltaics and a straw bale meeting room will be added in the next phase, scheduled for
2005.
