How To Get Started

Microtricity is for all our customers who want to make their own electricity. It’s a 4-step journey.

Step 1 - Choose how you want to make your own Microtricity

The table below shows you the different rates that are paid for the different technologies. Typically, solar panels or a small windmill are the most suitable for home or small business use. But your decision will be affected by other factors too, such as the space available, suitability and your budget. You’ll get guidance on these factors from the installers you talk to in step 2.

Tariffs for new installations in period (p/kWh) [will be inflated annually]

Step 2 - Find an installer

There are lots of installers around now. We don't recommend any one in particular but OFGEM insists that all installers, whichever system you choose, must be MCS accredited. The  MCS website will help you to find suitable installers in your area. It’s worth getting more than one quote, as prices will vary.

Step 3 - Install your system

This is the relatively easy part for you. Your chosen installer should take care of all the details. In the process they will provide you with the technical information that we will need to register you for Microtricity payments. Keep those to hand for the final step.

Step 4 - Sign up to Microtricity

Once your system is up and running, use this form to sign up to Microtricity online. You can also apply offline using this application form We’ll take care of everything else from this point.
