Electricity Power Cuts

If you have a power cut check your neighbours have lost power too. If they have there's a fault in your area and you should contact your Regional Distribution Company direct, even though you're an Ecotricity customer. You can find their contact details in the table below. 

If the power cut is specific to your property

This is probably an electrical fault and you should call a qualified electrician. A few things could be causing this:

  • Trip switches – make sure all trip switches are in the 'on' position. Sometimes trip switches will trip when overloaded. If they're in the 'on' position this won't happen.
  • Electricity meter fault – many faults can occur with electricity meters and these faults differ between standard meters and Pay As You Go (prepayment) meters.

Common problems with standard meters:

  • Blank display – your supply is off and the meter screen is blank
  • Faulty display – the meter shows a series of 8’s or an error message

Common problems with Pay As You Go (prepayment) meters:

  • Lost key – unable to top up
  • Key error – key doesn't work when put into the meter
  • Battery failure – the meter battery has run out and needs replacing

You can call us on 08000 302 302 if you're having a problem with your prepayment meter – we're here Monday to Friday 8am to 5:30pm. Outside of these hours please contact your local Regional Distribution Company (see table below).

How to contact your Regional Distribution Company

If you have a fault outside of our office hours (8am to 5:30pm Monday to Friday) call your Regional Distribution Company found in the table below.

You can find your local company using the MPAN number on your most recent bill (MPAN stands for Meter Point Administration Number and is made up of 13 digits).
