New Energy in Action - Fen Farm Application Approved.

21st October 2005

Twenty state-of-the-art wind turbines, capable of powering over 13,000 local homes, are to be built as plans to extend a Lincolnshire Wind Park were backed by the local council.

East Lindsey District Council voted 7 to 6 to accept Ecotricity's planning application to build 20 wind turbines at Conisholme Fen in Mablethorpe, Lincolnshire . The decision, made by the 13 members of the Council's Development Control Committee marks the end of a four year struggle to get approval for the wind power project.

The project has been developed by Ecotricity, the UK 's leading renewable energy company, and will feature twenty new turbines, each standing 65-metres high. The new extension will generate an extra 43.5 million units (kWh) of green electricity every year.

Dale Vince, founder of Ecotricity, said: "I'm really pleased about this decision. It's an endorsement of wind energy and reflects the good work we've being doing in the region. This wind park will bring huge environmental benefits to the region by providing safe, clean, green local electricity for over 13,000 homes and prevent the emission of over 43,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide every year. Local homes can buy their power right now from ecotricity at the same price as conventional brown supply – and that's unique.”
