New wind power for West Norfolk homes

12th September 2002

Today Ecotricity submitted a planning application for a new wind park set to power over 7,000 local homes in Norfolk.

A leading UK wind energy company and the founder of the green electricity market place, Ecotricity is planning to build six state of the art wind turbines at Sedgeford. If given the go ahead the park will provide electricity for 12% of homes in the Kings Lynn and West Norfolk District. The environmental benefits are significant - the park will prevent the emission of over 20,000 tonnes of Carbon Dioxide (CO2), every year for thirty years.

This will be Ecotricity's third project in Norfolk. Local people will be able to buy the power generated to run their homes, by signing up to Ecotricity's new home supply tariff. And it won't cost them anymore than conventional, polluting electricity from their local supplier.

Earlier this year Ecotricity held exhibitions and a public meeting in Sedgeford to present its wind plans to local residents. Consultations have also been carried out with statutory bodies including the RSPB and English Nature prior to submitting the planning application.

Further details of the project, including the Non Technical Summary of the Environmental Statement are available on the Ecotricity web site www.ecotricity.co.uk
