4 March 2003

Dale Vince & Tony Richardson, Managing Director of WWTThe Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT), the largest international wetlands conservation charity in the UK, with headquarters at Slimbridge, is working with another local company, Ecotricity, the UK's first green electricity company to help sustain and improve the environment. Through the partnership WWT is encouraging its members to switch to clean green power. Members and visitors can sign up to Ecotricity at WWT visitor centres throughout England and Wales or on-line at www.wwt.org.uk

Ecotricity will pledge £10 to WWT for every member who signs up to the green electricity service. The money will go towards the conservation of wetlands and their biodiversity.

Making a positive contribution to the environment is a major focus for the partnership. WWT has a dedicated research department which has been using science to underpin wetland conservation internationally for over 50 years. By encouraging members and visitors to opt for Ecotricity, WWT is actively reducing carbon dioxide emissions that contribute to climate change and affect for the long-term sustainability of wetland areas. Ecotricity is the only electricity company dedicated to building new clean sources of power, such as wind energy, to replace polluting conventional sources.

Dale Vince & Tony Richardson, Managing Director of WWTTony Richardson, managing director of WWT comments, "We are delighted to be partnering a company dedicated to the production of renewable energy, and to be passing on to our 100,000 members, the message that sustainable power is now available to them at a competitive rate".

Dale Vince, managing director of Ecotricity says, "It is great to partner up with WWT as we have many common goals in terms of our environmental agenda. The future of wetlands hinges on the state of the environment, which in turn affects all of us. Creating new renewable energy capacity to replace polluting conventional electricity sources is at the heart of our business and the only way forward if harmful carbon dioxide emissions are to be safely reduced."
