Smile makes a secure investment in green Ecotricity

Eco-friendly smile, the Internet bank, is giving its customers an opportunity to join the growing numbers using sustainable energy. smile has joined up with Ecotricity, the world's first green electricity company with the aim of tackling climate change by encouraging people to switch to Ecotricity's premium-free, clean, renewable electricity.

This month Ecotricity started supplying homes in England and Wales with its green electricity and together with its partners, including smile, aims to make clean electricity available to one million homes. Tackling the threat of climate change by reducing the emissions created from conventional electricity production is Ecotricity's mission and it is the only licensed electricity company dedicated to building urgently needed new green energy capacity to replace conventional polluting power sources.

Phil Garlick, Director of Operations at smile said, "This is an ideal way for our customers to join us in a hassle-free way of doing their bit for the environment and it doesn't cost any more than electricity from their existing supplier.

"We know from the response we received, when we announced that we were running our Pyramid building at Stockport on electricity produced from methane, a by-product of digested sewage, that many of our customers will be keen to take up this opportunity."
