South East Water taps into Ecotricity

19 February 2003

Leading utility company, South East Water has joined up with Ecotricity, the UK's first green electricity company to encourage the use of safe clean electricity as part of its environmental agenda.

Setting an example of environmental responsibility through good practice is a major focus for the partnership. South East Water has an impressive portfolio of award winning environmental and conservation projects. Ecotricity is the only electricity company dedicated to building new clean sources of electricity, such as wind energy, to replace polluting conventional sources.

Emma Goddard, sustainable development manager at South East Water comments, "We take our environmental responsibilities seriously and are always looking at far reaching ways to improve our environmental performance. Our work with Ecotricity will ensure that our business and customers work together to reduce the harmful atmospheric effects of energy consumption. This partnership will help to ensure that our water supply area is a healthier environment for us to all to live and survive in."

Dale Vince, managing director of Ecotricity says, "It made sense to partner up with South East Water as our work is inextricably linked in terms of the impact we have on the environment. Ecotricity is the only electricity company dedicated to building new energy capacity to replace conventional electricity sources and the only way forward if harmful carbon dioxide emissions are to be reduced."

Ecotricity has been supplying green electricity to organisations since 1996 and will be launching a new service in April to supply green electricity to people in their homes. The Company has an ambitious build programme scheduled for the next few years and aims to build 500 megawatts of new deep green energy by 2010.

South East Water, which supplies 400 million litres of top quality drinking water each day to 1.5 million people across five counties, has a well established environmental policy. An integral part of the policy is to inform customers about environmental best practice such as the value of safe green power which helps reduce harmful carbon dioxide emissions.
