Ecotricity is the only electricity company dedicated to building new clean sources of electricity, such as wind energy, to replace polluting conventional sources.

The move is part of a new partnership between Ecotricity, founder of the green electricity market and Environ, an independent charity working to improve the environment in a bid to encourage households throughout England and Wales to switch to green electricity. Environ's offices have been powered by Ecotricity since last summer.

The EcoHouse, Western Park, which attracts over 20,000 visitors a year, will also benefit from Ecotricity's new Net Metering service, which provides credits in return for power generated by the house's 28 photovoltaic panels on the roof. This action encourages customers to use local renewable energy within their homes by offering them savings off their electricity bill.

Dale Vince, managing director of Ecotricity comments, "The EcoHouse demonstrates the lifestyle we should and can all aspire to be living in the future. We're working together to show people that there are practical, affordable steps and choices that they can make, like switching to green electricity, which really help to improve the environment."

Setting an example of environmental responsibility through good practice is a major focus for the partnership. Environ provides information, advice and practical help to encourage individuals and organisations to take practical steps towards a more sustainable future.

Ecotricity was selected to power the EcoHouse due to its green credentials as Director of Environ, David Nicholls, comments,

"We welcome our partnership with Ecotricity because this company is committed to developing new sources of renewable energy. And we want to demonstrate that switching to green electricity is a very tangible, easy way in which every household or business can make a significant environmental action."

Ecotricity will be making a donation to Environ for every customer who switches to green electricity via the charity's web site at www.environ.org.uk
