A 'green' New Year's Resolution for London

9th January 2001
In a New Year's resolution to combat climate change a consortium of ten local authorities in and around London are switching to Ecotricity, marking the UK's most significant public sector move to renewable energy sources.

A total of 18 sites, with a combined electricity consumption of 15 million kWhrs per annum will save the environment over 6,000 tonnes of Carbon Dioxide - the most significant greenhouse gas.

Among the premises now being 'Powered by Ecotricity' are the City of London School, Wandsworth Town Hall, Maidstone Council and sites in Haringey, Redbridge, Surrey, Southwark, Shepway, Horsham and Harrow.

The local authorities are all members of the LASER Energy Purchasing Group and a spokesman for the consortium, David Taylor says, "By changing to Ecotricity our members are supporting the expansion of renewable energy sources and contributing to the Government's national CO2 reduction target by significantly reducing their emissions."

Ecotricity founded the UK's 'green' electricity market place in 1995 and is now Europe's largest dedicated supplier of renewable energy. Dale Vince, Managing Director of Ecotricity says, "LASER members are setting an excellent example to the private and public sector in the UK, because by acting locally we make an impact on our global environment."
